Library Instructional Services

Faculty are encouraged to request information literacy instruction for their courses.  Sessions can be customized for subject areas, specific courses, and specific assignments. Options include:

Navigating databases

  • searching the online library catalog, individual databases, and collective databases (PowerSearch)
  • using particular collections or formats, such as subject-specific databases, eBooks, and streaming videos

Evaluating Sources

  • differentiating between types of publications, and when to use each
  • evaluating websites for credibility based on currency, reliability, authority, accuracy, and purpose
  • understanding the structure of domain names and what they represent

Using information ethically and legally

  • avoiding plagiarism by properly citing sources

Because sessions are tailored to your course, please contact us as far ahead of time as possible, at least two weeks.  This is especially important at the beginning of each semester due to demand and scheduling.
